Keith Tyler, OD FAAO
Keith Tyler grew up in Lansford, North Dakota. He attended Minnesota State University, Moorhead and graduated with a degree in Biology. Looking to pursue a career in health care, he moved to Orange County, CA, to attend the Southern California College of Optometry. While there, he was elected to serve as the president of the Student Association. He served as an intern at Hu Hu Kam Memorial Hosiptal, on the Gila Indian Reservation, just south of Phoenix, Arizona. On this reservation, there is the highest prevalence of diabetes in the world. He then moved to Las Vegas, NV, where he worked with ophthalmologists trained in glaucoma and LASIK. His last internship was at the San Diego Naval Hospital.
Upon graduation from SCCO, Dr. Tyler was selected to become a resident at the Illinois College of Optometry (ICO). Only ~ 10-15% of graduating ODs go on to complete a residency. After completing his residency, he was fortunate to stay on at the college, and taught for two years, becoming an assistant professor of optometry. The Illinois Eye Institute, which is the clinic of ICO, sees almost 90,000 eye visits a year, and serves primary public aid patients. Dr. Tyler was named the first chief of their urgent care clinic in 2009, and helped over see almost 4,000 walk in eye care emergencies.
While he loved Chicago and teaching, Dr. Tyler has always looked towards the Twin Cities as his eventual home. In the summer of 2010, he found this practice in Bloomington, and moved to MN. He looks forward to working with you to provide you with the care that you deserve.
